History shows that there was a bridge across Little Lake Butte des Morts in the 19th century but eventually was abandoned as it fell into disrepair. The idea of a new bridge never died. Even though it took until the 1970's to construct a bridge, the above article from 1932 shows that the idea had been kept alive consistently for many, many years.
