It's better than a trip to EPCOT at Walt Disney World! Better than an Olympics opening parade! All the nations in one classroom! A tip of the proverbial hat to the moms who more than likely had a hand in dressing these kids at St. John's. Too bad the other kids didn't make the cut for the photo op; the readers missed seeing the costumes of some key countries whose ancestors made Menasha what it is.
The other 20 kids in the class represented Poland. I think I was about 12 years old before I met another kid who's name didn't end in "ski". It was Jon Van Harpen.
ReplyDeleteGood one, Dave! I had a similar experience at St. Mary's, though it was a mix of German and Polish names.
ReplyDeleteDzień dobry - good morning / good afternoon (jane DOH-brih) David, good blog. However, I do not understand why all the costumes are not Polish. ("... didn't make the cut for the photo op ..." - is currently politically [in]correct discrimination.) Memory serves I was in 7th grade at St. John's. Dave Gehrke comment reminds that Timothy Van Harpen, is a classmate of St. John's.
ReplyDeleteDziękuję - thank you (jen-KOO-yeh)
