Menasha Furniture Block

Gundi's Lanes; Dale Tetrault, Optometrist; Harder's Barber Shop; The Paper Store; and Menasha Furniture make up this Chute Street block, circa 1979.  WEMI radio and the Fink law offices upstairs complete the line-up.

  1. How old is Mihms Charcoal Grill? They are on Chute street currently but have been there a long time.

  2. Without checking, I want to say they've been on Chute Street since about 1958, and originally, across the street from their current location.

    1. Mihm's used to be next to the bank of Menasha until the current location was finished around 1977 ish. My Grandfather moved up from Sheboygan and bought the building and everything in it lock stock and barrel according to our records. it was 1958. Kim Palmer Pollard

  3. Unless they have taken the sign down, the old menu board always stated at the bottom "We will not serve Coca-Cola." That's WILL not, as opposed to DO not. My father told me that when Rudy Mihm opened his first smaller shop across the street in 1958 he expected Coca-Cola to pay for his lighted outside sign with the Coke logo on it. The sales rep refused, adding, "You'll never make it without selling Coke." The menu board sign it is, Pepsi Cola it was, and is.
