Situated next to Druck's in the late '60s/early'70s, I was the lucky recipient of a Schwinn Stingray bike from that establishment. As a boy, I had free rein of the town on that bike, back in a day when kids were allowed to do such things. No helmets, no pads- my only concession to the dangerous world at large was a bike lock and even that wasn't used that many times.

Remember riding my bike downtown - like you said, no helmets. the good ole days! Good job David, this is really interesting!
ReplyDeleteRode my bike to the library every day during the 50's summers to participate in the library reading programs, to tennis lessons and baseball games at 7th St. and Walbrun St. parks, even to Smith Park. While visiting my folks with my two children in the early 80's they road bikes from 6th St. in Menasha all over even to the island and downtown Neenah. Yes, the good ole days.
