Happy Times

 July 5, 1957, Twin City News-Record
Ah, the simple joys of summer.  Carnival rides, fair food, and spending time with Dad.  What could be better?  So many recollections of fairs and picnics at Jefferson Park that they all wash into one big nice memory.  It certainly was a special time.

    Fast Forward to July 1988:
My late husband Don Dean moved to Menasha, WI [from Ohio] in February 1988 with the American National Can Company. Because of family matters I didn't make the move until second week of June. Our home was right next to Fox River and Jefferson Park. I knew one person in WI, my husband. We decided to attend the Saint Mary's Catholic Church Fourth of July Celebration at Jefferson's Park. Because it was a bright sunny a day, I chose to wear my BSA, Class B Uniform... decked out in my scout socks, shorts and a BSA Tee-shirt. The first thing we encountered was the Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack Display. Mike Quinn Scoutmaster, the rest of the leaders and scouts welcomed us with open arms. I realized I wasn't so alone anymore. Over the next eight years that we were in Wisconsin, Don and I attended many wonderful picnics at Jefferson Park and scouting events throughout the Bay-Lakes Council, headquartered in Menasha, WI. Thank you for making us welcome. Oh yes, I am still in
    Scouting.
