Joe the Trader

November 3, 1964, Appleton Post-Crescent

How many of us remember Joe the Trader?  On Highway 47 on the way to Appleton, you'd go straight and make a quick left instead of taking that sweeping curve that went past the big insurance company on the right.  I was just a kid during his heyday and I only recall going there a few times, but I had an aunt who used to swear by the guy.

  1. Weren't they (Joe & his wife) the ones who had their bodies frozen (cryonics)for the future cure or something?

  2. Yes! My Mom used to do some Christmas shopping there when I was a kid. The building was a plumbing place for a while, and it now looks abandoned.

  3. I was having a discussion with my son, his girlfriend and my mom about this place. I thought it was called “Trader Joes” back then and we searched for hours when we came across this post. My mom is in her 80’s and also remembers the freezing of bodies. I wonder what happened to them.
