With the new Racine Street Bridge to be completed soon, we look back at 1946, a little over five years before the original bridge was completed and dedicated. Of course, studies were done and alternate locations were considered. Imagine if the bridge had crossed the river further upstream, from Appleton Street across to Cleveland Street. Or crossing from Racine street to Riverway. Those were the other two alternatives to what was eventually decided upon. How different those neighborhoods would have been.
