The Army was well aware of the mass exodus that would soon follow upon the end of World War II. The stereotypical GI or sailor was, seemingly, more than happy to resume his civilian life after feeling compelled to enlist in the fight against tyranny or who was unlucky enough to have succumbed to Uncle Sam's involuntary conscription of his life for the duration of the war. But there were those who liked what they experienced and found this new life a chance to make something of themselves. For them, we bring you this ad, to compel those walking the fence between hometown or seeing the world to decide that staying in uniform wasn't that bad. And it was as easy as visiting the Menasha post office on Racine Street to raise your hand and sign those papers. One wonders if the timing of this, so close to the holidays, had any bearing on the success or failure of this program. I can see many a former service member, glass in hand, pondering the pluses and minuses of such a commitment.
