This has elements of a familiar scene, all those years at St. Mary's...the Blessed Virgin Statue fronting Second Street in front of the school. But actually, I think the statue used to be between the high school and the church, until the "62 building was put up, then it moved in front of the high school. Here's a better view of the statue (though, from the rear, in 1970, with the '62 building to the left).
The painting depicts statue in original position, between church and high school.
ReplyDeleteI had Sister Regine for homeroom in 1956 and for mechanical drawing. She also taught art and speech and directed the stage productions. She was small in stature, fierce when provoked and an excellent teacher.

"fierce when provoked", I love it. Some of the teaching nuns I remember from St. John's would have made excellent Marine Corps sergeants. I'm 58 and still scared of them.

DeleteMy 1st grade nun at St John, Sr Tallentine, would have made George Patton quiver like a little girl.
