April 13, 1931 Oshkosh Northwestern
With the weekend upon us, let's consider, as the ad says, another weekend excursion to Chicago, Milwaukee, or even Waukesha via the ol' Soo Line. One cent a mile is a pretty good rate, wouldn't you say? Meet you in the dining car. All aboard!
My wife and I were engaged while at Purdue in 1967. That entire summer, while she worked in downtown Chicago, she came up to Menasha on the Northwestern train on weekends. The station is a great memory.
ReplyDeleteOn a second note, my grandfather's brother came up from Chicago once a year on the train. Without it he would not have been able to visit.
Finally, I remember riding the Northwestern as a child, and then a train in Eastern Europe in the late 1990's. There was a toilet in the end of the car that dumped down into the roadbed!!!!
