Bluejay Cheers

January 18, 1964, Neenah-Menasha Daily Northwestern

Fan frenzy went on a road trip to Kimberly as evidenced by this photo.  And despite the apparent typo that categorized these fans as equine, I'm sure they really did have hoarse throats after cheering so loudly.  Leave it to Mr. Picky to notice that, lol.

No Breaks

January 25, 1901, Oshkosh Northwestern

Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.  Imagine...getting caught up in one crime while evading another. That'll teach him to put his confidence in the US Mail!

Happy Family

December 21, 1934, Menasha Record

This happy container family is a long cry from 1884 when Gear's first mounted its delivery service in Menasha.  At that time, the driver would ring a bell and the housewife or whomever would bring their own pail or bucket to be filled from the wagon.

The things you learn from doing this job, lol....

Christmas Candy by the Pail

A 1931 ad in a grocers' trade journal touts the advantages of shipping and selling bulk candies in a pail produced by the Menasha Wooden Ware.  Eventually wooden pails for shipping goods would be phased out. By the mid-1950s, pails were not even manufactured anymore by the firm, having been overtaken by corrugated boxes and the like.

Valley Fair Stands Ready and Willing...

December 2, 1961, Appleton Post-Crescent

Here at the blog, regular readers know that the blogmeister loves himself some Valley Fair memories from way back.  So he was thrilled to find this shot of the center court in all its geometric glory to offer his readers.  Many a Christmas shopping trip began...and ended there.
