Happier times on the Menasha lock.  As we know, it's been closed since 2015 due to the invasive round goby.  Plans have been put out there to create an electric barrier to thwart the fish, but that costs millions and would take several years to implement.  But in the meantime, enjoy this view from a busy boating summer past.

  1. Unless an article accompanied this photo, I'm very surprised that the lock operator isn't identified by name. At least he smiled for the camera!

  2. Kris, I found more photos from the same time frame with the lock operator identified...Kermit Baumgartner. I will revise the above post to incorporate those photos.

    1. Thanks for the update, David! Much appreciated! I can remember going through the Menasha lock in our little boat several times in the late '60s and early '70s. Fond memories!
