Be it ever so fitting that a portrait of Jean Nicolet should adorn the Nicolet School, just blocks from Nicolet Boulevard and blocks from the Nicolet Monument in Smith Park. It makes so much sense that one wonders why it took fifty years to happen.
and today..... the ever non thrifty school board has closed Nicolet school for good. and tearing down Maplewood Middle school building. Then building a 99 million dollar replacement. wonder if these school members enjoy destroying history and have so much wealth they can afford the property taxes that the school portion consistently rises vs city portion, So much for common sense and cutting taxes.
