Snow Bound
March 16, 1959, Appleton Post-Crescent
Unlike some parts of the country where this kind of event is more than devastating, Menasha school kids only got the morning off due to this storm. Such hardy stock we Wisconsinites are.
The date of that storm seems to be about the time that the St. Mary Zephyrs won the state Catholic high school basketball championship in Milwaukee by beating Saint Catherine of Racine 32 to 30 on two free-throws by Dean Schriener. The low score was a consequence of coach Ralph Mclone slowing the game down to limit Saint Catherine's powerful offense. The snowstorm made it difficult to travel to Milwaukee. That was the same year that Menasha high school won the state championship in Madison. Can somebody please confirm my hunch. Jim Krahenbuhl SMHS 1960
