Roland Kampo Bridge

11:00 a.m., November 30, 1975 saw the opening of the Roland Kampo Bridge which linked US 41 to Menasha across Little Lake Butte des Morts.  Otherwise known locally as "The Polish Connection," it was the first link in what became known as the Tri-County Expressway. Originally designated as County Trunk Q, in the mid 1980's, it was redesignated as part of State Hwy 441 with the further development of the expressway project.

  4. I wonder if the public had access to part of the bridge before the opening or was the bridge connected from Racine St. to American Dr. at first and then connected to Hwy 41 after completion? Just wondering because my father told me that a family friend was in a rumble seat of a car and the driver accidentally hit the side barrier just above Tayco St. and the friend was ejected and landed on the street below. Im pretty sure his name was William "Billy" something. Last name starts with a C. And I believe it happened in '72. I could be wrong on the year but I know where his grave is at St. John's Cemetery. I was just curious on what the bridge looked like at the beginning. I do remember what it looked like in the late '80s and my father always called it the Polish connection.
